Our goal is to honor American
Servicemen and Women by planting
1000 trees over 1000 days

Our third Freedom Grove
has been planted • December 2004

Welcome. One Thousand Trees for America is a living tribute to people who are serving or have served in our Armed Forces. This unique program honors the true heroes among us, those citizens who risk their lives for our freedom. It also memorializes those who paid the ultimate price in the name of our country with a living tribute to their sacrifice.

One Thousand Trees for America will plant 1,000 trees in 1,000 days on the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland. The trees will be planted in Freedom Groves, each one in the name of an American Hero. Each name will be recorded and posted on this site. You'll also receive a special certificate of thanks including the name of your hero.

Pledges are recognized with a special certificate that you can print out at home.

This program is a partnership between the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, local businesses and Delmarva Broadcasting Company. This is a nonprofit effort with contributions going to purchase and plant the trees. Net proceeds will be donated to the USO of Delaware stationed at the Dover Air Force Base. This is the primary support group for service men and women departing from this region.

If you would like to donate a tree in the name of someone you know, it's easy and can be done here with our secure online server. The cost is only $25 per tree. Click here to enroll your hero's name and donate a tree to a local Freedom Grove.

The trees that will be planted in our Freedom Groves include American Oak, Green Ash and Dogwood.

Our Third Freedom Grove
Wednesday, December 8

We'd like to hear from you. Help us identify areas in and around Salisbury that need trees and would make a good location for a Freedom Grove. Our volunteers will meet regularly to review and schedule projects. If you or your organization would like to sponsor a grove, let us know that too.

A tree is worth $196,250! According to university professor T.M Das a tree living for 50 years will generate $31,250 worth of oxygen and provide $62,000 worth of air pollution control. Plus it will control soil erosion and increase soil fertility to the tune of $34,250, recycle $37,500 worth of water and provide a home for animals worth $31,250. This figure does not include the value of the fruits, lumber or beauty derived from trees. Just a few financial reasons to take care of our trees!

Trees were selected for this program because of their importance to our environment, contribution to our economy and endurance to last for generations.
